Text: Multivariable Calculus, by McCallum, William G., Hughes-Hallett, Deborah, Gleason, Andrew M., et al., chapters 11-17, plus or minus a few sections.

Technology: Scientific Notebook, MAPLE, and a Graphing Calculator

Syllabus:

  • Representations of functions of two and three variables, and notation used for functions of several variables
  • Algebraic and geometric understanding of vectors and vector operations
  • Derivatives of functions of several variables along with applications
  • Integration of functions of several variables along with applications
  • Vector functions that represent curves and surfaces

Assessment:

  • Quizzes and homework. Worth about 40% of the grade.
  • Midterm Exam/Project: An exam and/or project will be given once during the semester, about the middle of October. Worth about 30% of the grade.
  • Final Exam/Project: An exam and/or project will be given at the end of the semester. Worth about 30% of the grade.

Grades: A: 90%-100%, B: 80%-89%, C: 70%-79%, D: 60%-69%, F: below 60%
